Cumilla

Cumilla is a city in the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh, located along the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway. It is the administrative centre of the Cumilla District, part of the Chittagong Division. The name Cumilla was derived from Komolangko, meaning the pond of lotus.
Economy
Mainly based on agriculture, the economy of Cumilla has been flourished through trade and cottage industries, especially the 'Khadi' textile. Previously cotton cloths were exported to other districts. At present, Cumilla Khaddar is famous in all over the country. For the economic development of this region, the "Bangladesh Export Promotion Zone Authority" has established the "Cumilla Export Processing Zone" spread over an area of 104.44 hectares (258 Acres) in the Cumilla old Airport Area. Cumilla has a Land-port at Bibir bazaar. Cumilla is also enriched with natural resources. Bakhrabad gas-well is situated at Muradnagar. Numbers of new gas mines also discovered in Cumilla. The HQ of “Bakhrabad Gas System Ltd”also is situated at Cumilla. Manufacturers of popular Cumilla Rosomalai are mostly based on Manoharpur area of the main town.
Transportation
One of the oldest highways of the Indian Subcontinent, 'The Grand Trunk Road', passes through the city. The Dhaka–Chittagong Highway bypasses the city from the cantonment to Shuagaji through Poduar Bazar. The intercity bus terminal is located at Ashrafpur Bus terminal and ShashonGacha. Popular Bus services are Royal Ac coach, Asia Transport, Upokul, Boogdad Transport Etc.
Cumilla is a nearby city of Laksham Junction and Akhaura Railway Junction. Rail connection is available to Dhaka, Chittagong, Brahmanbaria, and Sylhet.
